WHY THE PROJECT WAS CREATED
The Italian market for integrated services and maintenance for biomedical and diagnostic imaging technologies involves over 3,000 highly qualified professionals.
The biomedical equipment sector is undergoing a period of profound change driven by increasing technological complexity. The proliferation of new technologies and needs related to cybersecurity, AI, and software evolution make maintenance an area where operational efficiency, access, and responsiveness are increasingly vital.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted certain systemic vulnerabilities: hospitals and industry operators encountered difficulties in effectively maintaining biomedical and diagnostic equipment, with a direct impact on the readiness and efficiency of healthcare responses.
AISAB was created from the need to establish an institutional partner to enable clinical engineers and independent operators of integrated services and maintenance to achieve the effectiveness and efficiency required by healthcare facilities for the management of a complex and constantly evolving equipment fleet.

Inspired by the US-based Alliance project, AISAB was created to give a voice to independent providers in the biomedical sector, promoting a model based on ethics, quality, and transparency.
OUR AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY ACTIONS
AISAB works to spread the culture of biomedical maintenance as a fundamental element of care through awareness campaigns, events, legislative initiatives, and international collaborations.
LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS
- Dialogue with the Italian government to introduce regulations on the Right to Repair in the biomedical field.
- Promotion of amendments to current legislation to guarantee access to manuals, spare parts, and software.
- Promotion of institutional actions to remove contractual constraints that limit free competition.
CULTURE AND EXPERTISE
- Organization of roundtables and events dedicated to the theme of “Right to Repair” in healthcare.
- Collaboration with major national conferences on Clinical Engineering and Italian Public Health to promote scientific, educational, and professional development initiatives.
RESPONSIBLE SUPPLY CHAIN
- Publication of white papers.
- Launch of awareness campaigns: “Repair to Care” or “Maintenance That Saves Lives.”
- Sharing of real-life stories regarding repairs delayed due to restrictions.
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION
- Connection with similar associations in the United States and Europe.
